the right wedding photographer
Choosing the right wedding photographer is very important. Here are a few tips that will help you make the right choice.
In my view the most important point is that both the bride and groom must meet the wedding photographer before the big day. Beware that if your wedding photographer works for a large photography practice then the person that you meet is not always the photographer that you will see on the day. It is vital that you feel that you are able to build a rapport with your wedding photographer. Imagine being bossed around on the big day by a stranger who you find that you don’t like very much. O.K. it’s no good simply to select someone that you feel could be your best friend as your wedding photographer only to find they can’t hold a camera the right way up, but it must be someone you can get along with.
the portfolio
When you are viewing the portfolio of a wedding photographer make sure all the work is his own. Again if you are using a larger practice you may find that the portfolio you are being shown covers the best work of their team. What a let down it would be to find that your own wedding album doesn’t come up to scratch and you find that none of the beautiful photographs that you were shown beforehand were taken by your own wedding photographer.
a complete wedding album
Likewise it is advisable to ask to see a complete wedding album that the photographer has taken recently. Otherwise you run the risk of selecting a wedding photographer who has photographed a hundred weddings and has managed to get a good shot every fifth wedding! Even better if you can see one where they have photographed a wedding at the same location that you will be holding yours. If they haven’t photographed a wedding at your venue check to see if they take the time and trouble to visit there before your wedding. This gives them a chance to find all the best places to take great photographs from without the stresses and strains of the big day. Also ask to see a selection of photographs taken in different lighting conditions. It’s one thing for a wedding photographer to be able to take great shots in the middle of a sunny summer’s afternoon. It’s an altogether bigger challenge to take them in fading light on a miserable afternoon when the light is fading.
